Councillor Jane Austen
Ward: Holderness
Party: Labour
Biography
I moved to Aston in 1978 and continued to live there until April 2008. Until 2005 I was a lecturer at Rother Valley College and taught many local people at Aston and Swallownest FE Centres. Over the years I have been involved with playgroups, Beaver Scouts, school governors and Parish Council. Having lived and worked in the community has helped me to understand the people, the problems, the good, the not so good and what needs to be done.
I have represented the Holderness Ward since September 2000. I would like to thank the people of Holderness ward for supporting me and I will continue, with my ward colleagues, to represent all to the best of my abilities.
Over the past ten years on the Council I have been involved with Education, Culture and Leisure issues but from May 2008 I have been concentrating on my scrutiny role as Chairman of the Democratic Renewal Scrutiny Panel.
Other Council areas of involvement include:
Rother Valley West Area Assembly and Co-ordinating Group
Rother Valley West Neighbourhood Action Group
Member Development and Training Panel
Member Standards Committee
Member of the Planning Board
Member of the Performance and Scrutiny Overview Committee
Community Grant
As a councillor I have a small amount of money to assist community groups and projects within Holderness Ward. Please contact me for more details.
