Councillor Jacquie Falvey

Jacquie Falvey

Ward: Dinnington

Party: Labour

Biography

I grew up in and have lived nearly all my life in Dinnington. My children go to or went to local schools - I'm a governor at Dinnington Comp - and I've been involved in groups and societies in the town for a long time now.

I've been a member of Dinnington Town Council for a number of years. During this time I have been involved in the continued improvements to the Lyric Theatre- a great asset for the people of Dinnington and the surrounding area, planning issues affecting the ward and the upkeep of the parks and cemetery (to name a few).

I have been an elected member for several years. Since then I have been involved in many issues that affect local people, including healthcare, transport, housing etc. I have helped to organise and participated in the local democracy week, which aims to encourage young people to get involved in issues that affect their local community.

As an elected member I am on the Licensing Board, Licensing Committee, Vice-Chair of Improving Places Select Commission, the Clifton Park Restoration Committee and the Recycling group. I am also Vice-Chair of the Rother Valley South Area Assembly.

Small amounts of money are allocated for community use which have helped Dinnington bowling club, the area assembly with local democracy week and the resource centre to hold a community fun run. More recently some of the money has helped organise activities for young people on mischievous night.

Please let me know if you are involved with a community group which could do with some help and I'll be happy to look at it.

My interests in the ward are wide ranging. I have a particular interest in issues which affect our young people. I want them to have a bright future in this town. That's why I'm involved in all the work to continue the ongoing regeneration. It may be slow at times but it is steady and I hope it reflects the priorities which you have for your own families.

Being a councillor is only part of my life. I work for http://www.safeatlast.org.uk/, a charity that works with young people who have run away from home or been forced to leave. I hold the post of project co-ordinator but am also a volunteer there.

Positions I hold:

Governor at Dinnnington Comprehensive School
Secretary of Dinnington and Laughton Common Crime and Safety Action Group
Member of the Dinnington Community Development Forum
Chair of the Dinnington Area Development Steering Group, which is currently moving forward with the masterplan for Dinnington and surrounding areas. Its aim is to improve the lives of local people through their environment and opportunities.

Latest News

With my colleagues - Cllr Jane Havenhand and Cllr Simon Tweed - I've been quite busy recently. The three of us go on regular walkabouts, seeing for ourselves how the decisions we make at all levels e.g Area Assembly, Council etc, translate into action on the ground. At the Council I'm about to start work with a small group of other councillors to look at our Choice Based Lettings policy and how it works for people looking for housing. If you have any ideas or views on this, why not contact me?
