Shackleton's Cat - a new children's opera

Date: 31st March 2015

After last year's successful performance of Borka, the English Touring Opera return to give a performance of Shackleton's Cat.

Shackleton’s Cat is the latest in the English Touring Opera’s award-winning strand of operas for young people.

The new opera features nine performers, including singers and players. It tells the story of the voyage and destruction of the endurance 100 years ago, and the subsequent tale of survival against all odds.

The opera features an ingenious set, with maps and images from the expedition, interactive songs and a puppet cat.

This performance is suitable for families with children aged 7 - 11 years.

Tickets are available from Riverside library.

Step-up Club

This is a drop in session where young people can attend at any time to take part in a wide range of activities.

The sessions consist of young people participating in activities such as pool, table tennis, access to games consoles etc and having the opportunity to be involved in issued based learning.  

Such learning includes alcohol awareness, internet safety, bullying, substance misuse, racism/sexism/homophobia/disablism and many more.

Young people also have the opportunity to be involved in voice and influence and making sure that their voice is heard.

The drop in sessions are open to all young people, 16 – 19 years who would like support, advice and information on Education, Training or Employment.

This can include CV writing, developing interview skills, signposting to other agencies, support with benefit claims and general advice regarding any issues facing young people today.
