Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council does not
require auctioneers to obtain a licence to conduct public
auctions within the Borough. However some local authorities
do require you to obtain an auction room licence if you
intend to hold a public auction. If you intend to hold an
auction outside Rotherham you are advised to contact the
relevant authority beforehand.
Where auctioneers sell second hand goods, either on
their own behalf or on behalf of their client's, there is a
requirement for them to register as second hand dealers
with Rotherham Trading Standards and maintain records
relating to their suppliers.
