This includes pre-adoption babies, young brother and sister groups and some teenagers - in fact any children who need looking after for a variety of reasons. Many of the youngsters will only need to be accommodated for a short time while the family sort out their problems, but others need to stay longer. Some of the children and young people may need to be fostered because a court has said they need to be placed away from their families for their own safety.
As well as the day to day care of the child or young person, foster carers need to attend regular meetings regarding the child and keep in good contact with schools or any other services involved. Most of the children or young people will be in contact with their families, and the foster carer will need to support these arrangements.
Some children and young people have more complex needs and some may have challenging behaviour. If you are working, we want to discuss your working arrangements with you, to ensure that you are available to attend meetings and training, are contactable and generally available for the child's needs.
