The Local Action 21 project has 2 main aims:
Awareness Raising and Education
This can be in the form of providing resource information and contacts for teachers, delivering assemblies, lesson plans and practical activities on a broad range of environmental / ESD themes, for example ecological/global footprints.
Awareness raising sessions on sustainable development and Local Action 21 are also available to all other areas of the community.
Environmental Projects
Assistance in helping to nurture ideas, find funding, and plan and implement projects contributing to sustainable development in Rotherham.
Examples of projects:
Waste recycling/composting projects, junk sculptures, murals, energy efficiency, learning through music and drama, tree planting, gardens/nature areas, play areas, litter picks and Greencheck (a school based environmental management systems).
Local Action 21 themes contribute towards Citizenship, Personal Social and Health Education and can be integrated into all curriculum subjects. Assistance is also available to gain the Eco Schools Award and the Healthy Schools standard. Open to all Key Stages.
