Fly Tipping

The service we provide

We have two teams dedicated to tackling fly-tipping. These work closely with Streetpride's Enviro-Crime Unit to identify the people responsible for the illegal tipping of waste. The penalties for those caught fly tipping are either:

  • A fixed penalty fine of £75.
  • A fine of up to £50,000 at the Magistrates Court, or an unlimited fine at the Crown Court, and/or a prison sentence of up  to 5 years.

The removal of illegally tipped domestic and commercial waste costs the Council approximately £150,000 a year.

The service you can expect

Streetpride has set a challenging target. We aim to remove all fly tipping on land with public access within 1 working day of notification.

The service we achieve

  • 3,112 reports of fly tipping were received between April 2007 and March 2008.
  • 575 tonnes of general waste were removed.
  • 1,715 old tyres were removed.
  • In 2007/08, 79.8% of reported fly tipping was removed within 1 working day.
  • Streetpride erects barriers at hotspot sites to reduce fly tipping.
