The Old Bridge
The old bridge carrying Highfield Lane over the railway at Orgreave had a weight limit and one-way traffic restrictions imposed on it for several years. This was awkward for local traffic and adversely affecting development and employment in the area. Streetpride has constructed a new bridge alongside the old.
Use of the old bridge was generally unaffected until the new bridge was nearly complete. Traffic was switched to the new bridge in mid-December 2005. The old bridge is being retained, but only to carry cables and pipes.

The new bridge is a three span steel and concrete construction. It was designed by Streetpride and built by the council's strategic partner, Ringway Highway Services.
The structure, which forms part of the
Council's bridge strengthening programme, features a type of foundation design not previously seen in the UK. The unusual topography of the site and the difficult geological conditions, together with an operational railway crossing the site, called for innovation and true partnership working throughout the project.
The scheme was funded from Objective 1 monies.
