An applicant will be expected to pay for the costs associated with closing or diverting a public right of way. The cost of a diversion or extinguishment ranges from £450 to £1,500. Applicants will be notified if it appears that the cost of an order will be substantially greater than £450. The range in costs is a reflection of the complexity of the proposal and the likelihood of an increased legal workload.
The cost includes for advertising in one local newspaper for the making and confirmation of the order. A further advertisement is needed for the coming into effect for Town and Country Planning Act Orders.
If an order is not confirmed, the applicant will still be expected to pay the fee associated with the diversion or extinguishment order.
