The service we provide

The aims of the Rotherham Wardens are to:-

Improve the quality of life of communities by establishing a reliable and targeted response to local needs thereby:

• Building community confidence
• Reducing crime and the fear of crime
• Deterring anti-social behaviour
• Deterring enviro-crime, including fixed penalty enforcement
• Encouraging the use of parks and green open spaces,
• Improving the physical appearance and management of the neighbourhoods
• Improving health and learning outcomes by increasing participation in activities

The Rotherham Warden service is an amalgamation of the former Neighbourhood Warden and Urban Park Ranger services and operates over the whole of Rotherham borough. The unit has up to 3 Rotherham Wardens per area assembly area and also covers duties within the Parks and Green spaces of Rotherham.

Rotherham Wardens will continue to be the "eyes and ears" of the community and they are excellent "linkers" between the communities of Rotherham and the various agencies that serve these communities.

The Rotherham Wardens are an integral part of the Safer Neighbourhood Team framework, working closely with the Police, 2010 Rotherham Ltd., Streetpride and other important services.
We provide highly visible patrols on the streets of the areas covered. Our duties include:

• Acting as a link between the community and statutory and non-statutory agencies.
• Dealing with complaints about general and anti-social behaviour
• Disposal of drug litter.
• Reporting dog fouling, defective street lights, abandoned furniture and other fly tipping and abandoned vehicles.
• Graffiti reporting and removal.
• Disposing of Fly Tipping
• Issuing of fixed penalty notices for Fly tipping, Litter, Dog Fouling.
• Safer Neighbourhood Team support

Rotherham Wardens also provide crime prevention advice and leaflets on:

• Materials, such as door & window alarms.
• Property marking.

Our Achievements:

• 2003: The service was recognised nationally as a service of best practice and was awarded a national clean and safe award in November 2003 by ENCAMS, (formerly the Keep Britain Tidy group) for a community environmental project.
• 2003: The service received a South Yorkshire Police District Commanders Commendation for the crime prevention initiatives undertaken.
• 2004: The service received the Rotherham Partnership’s Excellence in Achievement Award for work undertaken as part of the External Gallery Project
• 2004: The service received the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) Warden Quality Standard Award with a distinction mark of 81 out of 100, one of only three scheme within the UK to receive a distinction mark.
• 2005: Received the best community Initiative Award by the Association of Public Service Excellence for its work with External Gallery.
• 2005: ODPM National Neighbourhood Warden Awards "Young person of the year" Kelly Jones.
• 2005: ODPM National Neighbourhood Warden Awards "Manager of the year" John Parks
• A 95% graffiti removal rate has been achieved in the target area of Rawmarsh following the creation of the youth activity "Project External Gallery".
• Since the creation of the unit, it has dealt with 18,000 complaints of varying nature, with all closed to the customer's satisfaction.
