Trees and Woodlands

The Council has a deep concern for the environment, especially the contribution made by trees, woodlands and hedgerows. In particular, they help to create attractive landscapes and welcoming approaches for visitors.

A good environment is essential for the well being of the people of Rotherham. It also reflects positively on the area and helps to attract investment.

Therefore, trees play a vital role in the borough's hugely successful regeneration initiatives. Indeed, vast areas of blighted land left waste following the decline of some of Rotherham's traditional heavy industries have all but disappeared. Now restored, they offer considerable environmental and employment opportunities for the future. The conservation of trees, woodlands and hedgerows is recognised as a key test of sustainable development.
