The Council has launched a new and quick way to clean up streets and promote a tidy environment by changing the way it delivers these services. From April 2003, teams responsible for the service can be identified by their distinctive clothing.
Staff from teams in the Economic and Development Services and Neighbourhoods programme areas have adopted the Streetpride name and logo on all uniforms and a fleet of refurbished vehicles.
Streetpride are working closer with the community to maintain and improve the street scene to a high standard to help promote civic pride and community responsibility. "First impressions count", and our intention is that residents and visitors alike will gain a pleasant first impression of Rotherham from the appearance of its streets. Streetpride will combine a range of activities under one logo - including street cleaning, maintenance, environmental services and school crossing patrols. Streetpride staff are also playing a role in tackling crime and disorder issues by linking up with police and other agencies with better co-ordination using the CCTV control room.
All Streetpride activities will be carried out by trained staff in uniform and with an easy to remember telephone number clearly displayed on their street vehicles.
As further experience was gained, the pilot scheme was fully launched in September 2003 when a one-stop phone number was launched to deal with all public enquiries 01709 336003. This number is prominently displayed on Streetpride vehicles and street banners.
The initiative was designed in response to community consultation exercises, which found that a clean and tidy environment was one of the top priorities of local people.
