WHAT IS THE HOME SERVICE DIRECTORY?

A Trading Standards scheme to provide consumers with the means of finding a local trades person they can trust and to help promote reputable traders in South Yorkshire.

Any local trades person can apply to join the Home Services Directory. To become a member you will be vetted by Trading Standards and sign up to the terms and conditions of the scheme.

Trading Standards will promote the Home Services Directory to local residents, particularly older and vulnerable people, advising them to use members of the scheme when looking for a local trades person to work in the home or garden.

If you are in trade - be it as a sole trader or a company - please get in touch to find out more about the Directory. Application packs are now available.

WHEN SHOULD YOU APPLY?

We are currently welcoming applications from trade and hope to launch the Directory to the public in the coming months. There is currently no deadline for applications.

ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE

Applicants must go through a vetting process. This includes:

Police check for traders and employees

County Court Judgement Checks

Trading Standards Check for customer complaints

References

Proof of Appropriate Public Liability Insurance

Legislation Compliance Check of company stationery

Proof that business has been established for a minimum of 6 months

MEMBERSHIP FEE

There is an annual membership fee of £50. If you have more than one trade you can join under several categories for a fee of £10 per additional category.

Traders can apply for membership in the following categories:

Builders * Handy person

Carpet fitters * Joiners

Drainage * Mobile Hairdressers

Driveways * Painters/Decorators

Electricians * Plumbers

Gardeners * Roofers

Glazing * Security Installers

Other trades will be considered on request.

CONSUMERS

The Home Services Directory is now available to consumers.
