Product Safety

Aim: "To ensure that all members of the community are protected from the risk of injury arising from the supply of unsafe goods."

Enforcement of safety legislation includes:
  • All consumer product areas including toys, electrical goods, fireworks and nursery goods
  • Inspection of products on sale.
  • Sampling and testing.
  • Action to discourage supplies of certain goods to children, such as cigarettes, fireworks and lighter fuel.
  • Investigation of complaints.
  • Seizure or suspension of unsafe goods from sale.
  • Advice to businesses on safety laws and standards.
  • Controls on safety of hired goods or goods in rented property.
  • Action to stop the supply of unroadworthy vehicles.
  • Licences being issued to businesses selling poisons and second hand goods with site safety checks being made.
  • Participation in promotional campaigns to reduce injuries or health problems.
