Weights and Measures

Aim: "To ensure that all weighing and measuring equipment in use for trade is accurate and that underweight or short measure goods are not sold."

In order to uphold our responsibilities in this area Trading Standards Officers:

  • Inspect a wide range of equipment such as petrol pumps; shop scales; weighbridges; factory equipment and pub optics.
  • Check deliveries of goods.
  • Maintain accurate traceable standards of weighing and measuring equipment.
  • Make test purchases.
  • Check on labelling and quantity of prepacked goods from beans to building materials.
  • Verify the accuracy of equipment before it is put into trade use.

For advice and information on any of the above ring the Trading Standards Office on 01709 823151
