The core of the printed map collection is a large number of Ordnance Survey sheets covering Rotherham Metropolitan Borough and its surrounding region. Maps date from 1840 to the present, and scales are between a quarter inch and 120 inches to one mile.

Some of the most frequently used Ordnance Survey maps are available in digital format on the Viewfinder and on RMBC Mapper.

The this is an internal link icon Viewfinder touchscreen system for photographs also includes maps at a medium scale of six inches to one mile or 1:10,000. These may also be viewed at Clifton Park Museum and six community libraries and includes maps of three dates: 1850, early 20th century and modern.

RMBC Mapper is in-house software available on a computer in the Searchroom. The software shows a selection of maps used by services across the Council. It shows up to seven editions of 1:2500 maps (25 inches to one mile) from 1890 to the present. Also included are recent editions of smaller scale maps and aerial photographs of the whole borough.
