Book of Delights Project - Rockingham Pattern Book

Rotherham Museums Galleries & Heritage and Archives & Local Studies Services have secured for public ownership an extremely rare book of patterns used in the Painting and Gilding Rooms at the Swinton (Rockingham) Pottery between c.1825 and the 1830s. We are grateful to HLF for funding the purchase and associated work, with some matched funding from our own small purchase budgets and from our Friends organisations. A CD of digitised images of every page of the Rockingham Pattern Book is now available to view in the Archives and Local Studies search room.

Review of 2007-8

Archives & Local Studies was busy during 2007/8 with a wide range of exciting activities as well as running the public service and the ongoing work on the historic collections which we look after for the Borough of Rotherham.

In 2007 the Service received a 2** rating in The National Archives assessment of services.

During 2007 the following collections were catalogued for the Rolling out the Archives project:

Parker Rhodes
Dearne Valley Methodists
Rotherham County Borough Council
Beatson Clark
Dorothy Greene
Verelst
Mountforth

The Rolling out the Archives project continues to catalogue and make available major sources for the history of the Borough and region.

Alongside our regular displays in our own building and in community venues, the staff also promoted the use of the collections by a range of talks, taster sessions and workshops both in the searchroom and in the community libraries.
