Service for Ethnic Minority Children

The service aims to support all schools which have children from ethnic minority or Traveller backgrounds. Schools funded by the Ethnic Minority Achievement Grant (EMAG) meet regularly to discuss common concerns. Support and training is also given to EMAG funded teachers and teaching assistants, including Bi-lingual Support Assistants, regularly.

Advice, training and support are given on all issues relating to children from ethnic minority backgrounds. The service is also involved in specific projects eg. the Home Languages Project, Improving Reading Attainment amongst British Asian children.
