Service for Hearing Impaired Children

The Service for Hearing Impaired Children aims to enhance the educational opportunities of all children and young people who have needs relating to hearing impairment.

Educational support is provided from first diagnosis through to school leaving age. At pre-school, qualified teachers of the hearing impaired are able to work with parents to help babies and children to develop language and learning skills, through home visits and also through the parent/carer support group. Advice, training and support are also offered to playgroups and nurseries. Once a child enters school, visiting teachers of the hearing impaired continue to provide training and support.
