The
strategy's aim is to deliver the joint Government Public
Service Agreement (PSA) target to:
'Enhance
the take up of sporting opportunities by 5-16 year olds by
increasing the percentage of school children who spend a
minimum of 2 hours each week on high quality PE and School
Sport within and beyond the curriculum from 25% in 2002 to
75% by 2006, and 85% by 2008.'
The
Government is investing more than £459 million in the
PESSCL Strategy across the country in order to meet the PSA
target. This will be achieved through the delivery of nine
programmes, each of which is aimed at contributing towards
achieving the PSA Target.

Gifted and
Talented programme
A
partnership PESSCL strategy for Rotherham is currently
being produced and is at the first consultation phase of
the process.
The aim of
the strategy within Rotherham is to improve the
understanding of how high quality PE and School Sport can
be used as a tool for whole school improvement,
particularly in terms of improved behaviour, attendance and
attainment.
