Schools Library Service

The Schools Library Service is a subscription service for primary schools, special schools and nurseries in the Rotherham Metropolitan Borough. We can support your school in raising attainment by providing high quality resources and advice on all aspects of school libraries.

Our stock

We have a selection of stock that have been carefully selected based on its quality and relevance to the curriculum. These items include:

• picture books
• stories and novels
• information books
• stories on cassette and CD
• videos and DVDs
• posters
• big books
• large print books
• dual language picture books
• group reading sets

Comprehensive Collections

A collection of 35 resource items can be exchanged every term. The collection can contain any of the following items:

• fiction books - a range of board books, picture books and first readers
• non fiction books - foundation level curriculum non fiction titles
• one story sack - a large bag containing a good quality picture book with supporting materials to stimulate reading activities
• up to three big books - large format picture books perfect for reading aloud to a group of children

Partial Collections

A collection of 15 resource items can be exchanged every term. The collection can contain a range of the following items:

• fiction books
• board books
• picture books for first readers
• foundation level curriculum non fiction titles

Group Reading Sets

The Schools Library Service has a range of reading sets available for use in small groups. Each set contains between 6-8 books. Each teacher can borrow up to 3 sets at any one time. For details of our group reading sets, please see the documents below.

Ordering

Our website is currently being updated and the online ordering form is temporarily unavailable.  You can place your order by either Tel: 01709 813034 or Email: sls@rotherham.gov.uk

To borrow our stock you can either visit our showroom in Maltby or use our mail order service. You can search our  online catalogue and order by telephone, fax, post or email. Our staff will compile a topic collection for you and you can either collect it from our showroom or we will deliver it to your school at no extra cost.
