The
publication of 14-19: Opportunity and Excellence set out
the Government's strategy for reform of 14-19 learning. It
set out a major challenge to all providers of 14-19
learning to provide through closer collaboration
· A flexible curriculum responsive to individual
student's needs
· Different pathways which all provide progression
· Impartial advice and guidance
· Flexible delivery through ICT and e learning.
An
extensive programme of staff development is available to
support schools in the development and implementation of
14-19 programmes. The programme allows for the sharing of
local, regional and national best practice.
Staff
development is delivered through a range of networking
teams and groups which include representation from all
providers of 14 -19 learning, Connexions and Employers.
This helps to promote a collaborative approach to
curriculum development and support real innovation in 14-19
delivery across Rotherham.
Training
opportunities are carefully geared to the skills needed to
deliver the new 14-19 programmes and initiatives. Staff
involved in training are, where ever possible, given access
to national recognised qualifications.
A number
of conferences will be held during 2004/05 which will
enable teachers to meet together from other LEAs and
discuss recent national and regional issues.
As all
schools are at different stages of developing 14-19
provision individual consultancy is available in a range of
areas.
The funding to support training and development 14-19
comes from a range of sources, which include Objective One,
AWIASF (Area Wide Inspection Action Plan Standards Fund)
and Learning and Skills Council. Due to the nature of this
funding and the sub regional aspect information about
opportunities will be circulated as funding is available
and to specific schools involved in different
programmes.
