Adaptive Hardware and Software

Here is a list of the adaptive hardware and software available in the Central Library and some community libraries.

The Magnifier
This is a screen magnifier which enlarges what you see on the screen.

Screen Reader
This will read back to you words, sentences or pages you have written, and is useful when using Word, as you will be able to hear what you are typing. When you are using the Internet you can have the text on the screen read out to you.

TextHelp
Developed for those with dyslexia, this software includes word prediction and word wizard tools.

Cicero
Scan a document into the computer to have it read back to you.

Intellikeys
Intellikeys is a programmable membrane keyboard. It enables customers with physical, visual or cognitive disabilities to easily type, enter numbers, navigate on-screen displays and execute menu commands.

Supernova
Supernova offers magnification and speech, giving people with visual impairment the opportunity to use a computer in a way that suits them best. Supernova is available in the Central library and also Greasbrough, Dinnington, Maltby & Swinton Community Libraries. If you would like to use Supernova it is advisable to book in advance.

We also have compact keyboards available which are suitable if you are more comfortable with the keyboard on your lap or can only type using one hand.
