For the under 5s

We have a wide selection of board books for you to choose from and borrow to inspire your child to read, turn pages and enjoy stories.

Join the Bookstart scheme through Central Children’s Library and get free books and resources for your child to keep.

Regular BookStart Rhymetime sessions which enable your child to meet other children and share rhymes and songs.

For children

A wide and exciting selection of picture books are available for children, including picture books in other languages.
We have a wide selection of story books for younger children and those learning to read.
Story books to feed your imagination and take you to new and exciting places.
Story books on cassette & CD for when you want to listen a story, which are free to borrow.
Lots of comics and magazines for you to relax and read in the library.
Information books to help with your homework or books to help you with a hobby.

For parents & carers

We have a parent’s and carer’s collection to offer you information and advice on all kind of issues.
A collection of books to introduce your children to first experiences such as the first day at school or a visit to the doctors.

Central Children’s Library also has suite of computers exclusively for use by children. It’s free to use the computers and we only make a small charge for printing.
