Home from Home

The Home from Home project has been running at the Central Library for several years and has adopted varying formats. It was initially open only to refugees and asylum seekers but is now open to anybody whose first language is not English.

English Conversation Classes

The sessions cover various aspects of citizenship and life in Rotherham, involving reading from books, spelling and conversation. There are also occasional guest speakers from various organisations.

Some of the sessions may include typing up written work using the computers in the library.

The English conversation classes meet on Wednesday afternoons 1pm - 3pm. Refreshments are provided.

Everyone who attends the Home from Home sessions is encouraged to join the library and make use of the facilities available.

We aim to provide a welcoming, friendly atmosphere where people are not afraid to approach us for help.  Several of our staff are involved with these groups and have become friends to many of the group members. At the end of the courses, certificates of attendance are presented.

For anyone interested in attending the sessions we do assume an amount of basic literacy in English.
