Inclusion Services

The Library & Information Service has a policy aiming to ensure that all services are socially inclusive and meet the priorities of the Council.

The Library will work with communities to provide maximum access to information, knowledge, learning, reading for pleasure and diverse cultural activities.

The library is open 6 days per week.

The aim of the Social Inclusion Policy is to enable the effective inclusion of all members of the community in accessing library and information services.

The service will seek to ensure that:

  • library services reduce exclusion
  • the needs of minorities are researched and met
  • communities, minority and excluded groups are consulted and involved
  • library locations and opening hours are continually reviewed to meet identified needs
  • libraries continue to develop their role as learning centres and champions of the independent learner
  • ICT facilities and stock are fully accessible to all

As part of this policy services are offered to special groups, such as those with physical or learning disabilities or those from ethnic minority communities.

Outreach work is undertaken in the community, particularly among minority ethnic communities.

An interpretation service is available for people who cannot use services because of difficulties with the English language.
