Services to Minority Ethnic Communities

The Library aims to ensure that its services are equally available to all.

Cultural Awareness

The Library Cultural Awareness Officer is responsible for promoting, improving and recommending changes to Library and Information Services to ensure that they meet the needs of all the members of minority ethnic communities.

Public information documents are made available and accessible to members of minority ethnic communities and consultation with both individuals and groups within minority ethnic communities is regularly carried out.

Cultural Outreach

This service provides help and information an a variety of local courses for ethnic minorities and refugees, and an introduction to library services.

The cultural outreach worker can be contacted by phone or at the Eastwood Mission Church drop in sessions, these are for asylum seekers and refugees offering help and advice on a variety of topics.

ESOL classes for learning basic English 
Every Tuesday 1pm - 3pm
Open to all

UDRU newspaper reading group
Every Wednesday 10am - 11am
Open to all

Home from Home

The Home from Home project has been running at the Central Library for several years and has adopted varying formats. It was initially only open to refugees and asylum seekers but is now open to anybody whose first language is not English.
