Student Support officers will visit most school sixth forms and colleges in the Rotherham area to give out application forms and advice in March this year.
If you complete a paper application this should be submitted to your Local Authority office with original evidence of identity, that is your current passport. If you do not have a passport, you may provide your original Birth Certificate and a signed declaration form,downloadable from www.direct.gov.uk

If you apply online you will be asked to provide your identity documents to your Local Authority.
Deadline for applying for student support
You must submit your application for financial support within 9 months of the start of the academic year[end of May 2008 for a September 2007 starter]. If you do not apply for support within 9 months of the start of the academic year you may lose your entitlement to financial support for that year.
Deadlines for applying for student support – 2007/08 Academic Year
The following dates are designed to ensure that students are able to receive their financial support at the start of term in September/October.
New Students
If you are applying for the first year of your course and wish to apply for income assessed support (e.g. Grants) then you should submit your application form as soon as possible and no later than 29 June 2007. If you apply by this date you should receive your support in time for the start of your course.
If you wish to apply for non-income assessed support only, then you should submit your application no later than 27 April 2007.
If you miss these deadlines then your application will be processed as soon as possible, but your first payment may be late and therefore not available at the start of term.
Renewing Students
If you are applying for the second/third etc year of your course you must apply to renew your support each year. You can apply online or download a PR1 application. Alternatively you can request a form to be sent to you direct from this office [supplies are limited]. Your form should be completed and returned by 25 May 2007. If you apply by this date you should receive your support in time for the start of the new academic year.

How much financial support could I receive and what will I have to pay?
All eligible new students with no previous study can access a tuition fee loan and a living cost loan. Income assessed support in the form of grants is also available. If you have already studied on a higher education course and want to start a new course, you should enquire about your eligibility for support.
