In 2007 the Children’s Plan 2007-2010 was rewritten and findings from the 2006 Lifestyle Survey were included (see link below for the report for 2006). A commitment was made to conduct the survey annually in all secondary schools and to pilot the survey in primary schools.
This year pupils in Year 7 and Year 10 in all Rotherham secondary schools were invited to take part in the survey, which was now online, and 12 out of 16 secondary schools did. In the 12 participating schools there were approximately 5421 pupils on roll in Year 7 and Year 10, and after the difficulties experienced by schools with closures due to the floods, 2945 pupils completed the survey which was a 54% response rate.
The survey contained questions from a range of subjects including:
• Food and Drink
• Activities and Fitness
• Activities in and out of school
• Feelings
• Bullying
• Safety
• Smoking, Drinking and Drugs
• Opinions about their Neighbourhood
The Executive Summary of the Rotherham Wide report is available below along with the newsletter sent to all pupils that took part. Individual reports, prepared specifically for each school taking part in the survey, are only available to the school. These reports provide schools with an overview of their own results and how they compare to the overall Rotherham picture. This information may then be used to address particular areas of concern.

Primary School Lifestyle Survey 2007
The pilot of the Primary School Lifestyle Survey took place in the Autumn term 2007. 587 Year 5 pupils completed an online questionnaire in 22 Rotherham schools which gave a 71% response rate. The questionnaire was based on the secondary survey but the questions were designed in conjunction with teachers for Year 5 pupils.
