Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) are designated by English Nature (EN), the Government's advisor on nature conservation in England . SSSIs are given some protection against destruction, activities which are considered to be damaging are not allowed without permission and EN is often involved with site management.
There is no right of public access to a SSSI, though Public Rights of Way (PRoWs) often pass through or near them.
