Bassingthorpe Spring

A small oak-birch woodland near Wingfield School to the north east of Rotherham. It is ancient woodland, recorded from the 1550's, though the trees in the wood now are no more than 100 years old. The shrub and field layers are rather poor with most variety around the edges.

The wood was bought by Rotherham Borough Council in 1950 and was cut in two when Fenton Road was built.
