Parks

The Council manages parks across the borough, and many of the parks date back to Victorian times or the early years of the 20th century.

In the days of heavy industry, they were important as a place to breathe fresh air at the end of the day or at weekends. Nowadays they have different values as places where local people can enjoy a few hours of relaxation in pleasant, well laid out areas within walking distance of their homes, without the hassle of roads and transport.
