When And How Do I Pay?

You will be given monthly instalments, normally from April to January, to pay your Council Tax. We will include a payment card with your bill. We now offer a choice of payment date:6^th,13^th,20^th or 27^th of each month. This means that you can now pay by monthly instalments and select a date that is convenient to you.

Or you can pay by one of the following:

a) Pay in full by the 6 ^th April.

b) Pay in two halves, the first within 28 days of the bill being issued, the second by the 6 ^th September.

Paying your Council Tax.

There are several options for paying, choose the most convenient way for you.

1) By Direct Debit

We are able to offer you a choice of payment dates on which you can pay your Council Tax, but only if you pay by Direct Debit. This means that you can now pay by monthly instalments and select a date conveient to you.

When you pay by Direct Debit you are automatically covered by the Direct Debit guarantee. This means you are guaranteed an immediate refund from your Bank or Building Society in the unlikely event of an error occurring. Also you are always advised at least 10 working days in advance of any proposed changes, to either the amounts to be paid or the payment dates. This gives you ample time to query any changes.

There are 3 ways you can set up your direct debit:

3. Complete the following  Direct Debit mandate form (43kb) and return to     Rotherham MBC, Civic Building, Walker Place, Rotherham, S65 1UF.

Your revised Council Tax bill will set out the amounts to be collected and confirm the agreed due date.

2) Over the Counter

You can pay at any of the following Customer Service Centres or District Offices – in cash, by cheque, by debit card, by credit card, postal order or money order:

All District Offices are open Monday to Thursday 9.00am to 4.30pm and Friday 9.30am to 4.30pm.

All cheques should be made payable to: ROTHERHAM M.B.C. it is essential that your account reference, name and address should be submitted with each payment.

A receipt will not be issued unless specifically requested. If you obtain a receipt, please keep it safely. A hand written receipt on a payment slip is NOT a valid receipt.

You are advised not to pay by Bank or Post Office Giro as delays in the Council receiving your payment may lead to additional costs being incurred.

4) At the Bank or Post Office

You can pay at any Bank, but the Bank may charge a fee for this service.

You can pay at the Post Office, Please quote Rotherham Borough Council - Giro Number 6072011 and your Council Tax account number. Th Post Office will charge a fee for this service.

Please remember when paying at the Bank or Post Office it will take several days for the payment to reach us so please pay well in advance of the due day.

5) Armchair/Telephone Banking

If you want to use this service then contact your bank. You should arrange to pay
