Some are specially designed to help if you have disabilities. We realise how important good facilities are to you - like a laundry, or a community room to meet all your friends and neighbours. Our sheltered homes are located all over the Borough - so there is bound to be some near where you live.

What help is provided in sheltered housing?

All of our sheltered homes have dedicated staff to help and support you. They will spend time with you to work out what help you need and how best we can deliver it. Our homes are also served by a community alarm system which gives 24 hour cover to summon help if you need it. We want you to feel safe in your home and the staff and the alarm are there to make sure you never feel alone.

Who can apply for sheltered housing?

You must be over 55 years old and in the ‘Priority Group’ on the housing register. Most people who apply need help and support and may be having problems living in their current home. It does not matter what type of housing you are living in - you can still apply for sheltered housing.

How can I apply for sheltered housing?

You need to be on the housing register (application forms are available from the Key Choices Property Shop on telephone number 01709 336566 or are available from your nearest Neighbourhood Office or Customer Service Centre). You will also need to complete a Self Assessment form, this is available at the bottom of this page. If you would prefer to have a form sent to you via post then please contact the Assessment Team on telephone number 01709 823487.

How much does the service cost?

You pay a weekly rent and a little extra for the costs of the additional support you receive. You may be able to get help with these charges. Advice is available from the Benefits Office on 01709 823392 or we can arrange for a home visit if you prefer.

What do I do next?

A good start is to contact us for more details about sheltered housing. Telephone 01709 823487 and we will be very happy to help you.
