Site Allocations

The Local Development Framework (LDF) will identify or “allocate” land for specific uses (including mixed uses) in the Allocations Development Plan Document. In doing so it will follow and support the This is an internal link icon. Core Strategy

Between January 2007 and November 2008 we invited the submission of sites to be considered for inclusion in the LDF's Allocations Document for the following land uses:

  • Housing – including new dwellings, affordable housing, sheltered accommodation and sites for gypsies and travellers, etc.
  • Industry and Commerce – including offices, manufacturing plants, storage and distribution, warehousing, etc.
  • Retail.
  • Leisure – including restaurants, pubs, cinema, theatres, children’s play facilities, health and fitness centres, hotels, etc.
  • Transport – including interchanges, park and ride, new road links, etc.

This helped inform a Borough-wide survey undertaken over Summer 2008 to identify the capacity for new development within the Borough's settlements.

Next Steps

Information collected from the above survey is now being used to identify further This is an internal link icon. Core Strategy options for the growth of the Borough’s individual settlements. We will consult on these in early 2009.

Responses to this will help set the Borough’s growth strategy and enable a consultation on options for specific allocation sites in the Borough’s settlements (scheduled for early 2010) to meet the growth strategy. Prior to this consultation we will undertake specific studies (e.g. employment land, retail studies) of favoured settlement growth areas, and assess in more detail specific potential allocation sites.

The INVITATION TO SUBMIT SITES FOR CONSIDERATION AS POTENTIAL ALLOCATIONS IS NOW CLOSED. However, there will be opportunities to submit further sites as part of future planned consultation on the Allocations Document as it’s preparation progresses. We will also contact anyone else who has previously submitted a site for consideration as part of the preparation of the LDF so far.

This workshop was attended by a range of invited internal and external contacts and discussed the developing methodology being used to identify possible site allocations for the Issues and Options Allocations Document.

The following documents list comments raised during the event and the Council’s response, and provide a revised Survey Form and accompanying completion guidance note. The event's PowerPoint presentation is also available to view. Please note the Survey Form is correct as at early December 2007 and is likely to change through ongoing refinement.
