Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham Councils are producing a Joint Strategic Waste Development Plan Document (referred to as 'The Plan').
As part of The Plan it is proposed that a small number of sites are allocated for waste management facilities to be developed.
As a society we produce large amounts of waste which must be dealt with effectively. Historically, the majority of this waste has been sent to landfills. However, this is harmful to the environment and prevents some materials from being reused and recycled. The three Councils are therefore committed to working together to move towards better waste management solutions. It is clear that in order to do this, new sites for waste facilities must be identified.
We have previously consulted on the number of sites required and recommended that up to 6 will be allocated throughout the three boroughs, although it is anticipated that only 3 will be developed.
A potential site has been identified at Bolton Road, Manvers, Wath upon Dearne, immediately to the north east of the Next plc Warehouse Site
