The Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) sets out the broad development strategy for the region. It covers topics such as housing, economic development, transport, the environment and regeneration. The RSS is part of the statutory development plan for Rotherham. This means that the Council must consider the RSS alongside the saved policies of the Unitary Development Plan when deciding on planning applications. The Council must also take into account the RSS when drafting the Local Development Framework. You can view the current RSS here: Regional Spatial Strategy for Yorkshire and the HumberThe RSS is prepared by the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly before being finalised by government. The Assembly are now updating the RSS to test and explore the scale, locations and infrastructure needed to accommodate higher housing growth. You can find out more about the 2009 Update to RSS here: Regional Spatial Strategy 2009 UpdatePlease contact the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly via the webpage above for any further information about the Regional Spatial Strategy.
