Planning Policy Statement 3 (PPS3) requires that local authorities secure the provision of affordable housing when dealing with planning applications for 15 or more dwellings. We have produced an Affordable Housing Interim Planning Statement (IPS) following the completion of a Strategic Housing Market Assessment, to establish the level of need for affordable housing in the borough, and a Viability Assessment, to ensure that the levels of provision required by the Interim Planning Statement are realistic. The Affordable Housing IPS seeks to ensure that new housing developments contribute towards meeting identified affordable housing need in Rotherham. Developer contributions are required towards affordable housing on new housing developments of 15 units or more; the Council requires that 25% of housing on these sites be affordable.
