A design code has been produced focusing on the Rotherham town centre river corridor area bounded by All Saints Buildings, Sheffield Road, the River Don and the Maltkiln Street/Wilfred Street area. This was adopted by the Council as an Interim Planning Statement on 12 October 2005 and will be taken into account when determining planning applications within the design code area. It will eventually be formalised as a Supplementary Planning Document and form part of the
Local Development Framework.
This has been produced as part of the Government's national design coding pilot programme and has been a joint project involving:
- Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council
- Roger Evans Associates (appointed to produce the design code)
- Transform South Yorkshire (the region's Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder body)
- Yorkshire Forward; and
- Matrix Partnership (appointed to assist development of the design code by The Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment)
A design code is planning guidance which sets out specific rules or requirements to guide the physical development of a site or place. It provides a key tool for driving forward Rotherham's renaissance agenda, providing a means of securing high quality development and acting as a catalyst for raising design standards throughout the town centre.
The design code and associated documents are available to view and download below. Copies are available to view at the Council's Bailey House offices and Rotherham Central Library, and are also available for purchase at a cost of £5 for CD versions and £30 in printed format.
