Extension of UDP saved policies
The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 provides for the saving of policies in adopted or approved local, structure and unitary development plans for a period of 3 years from the commencement of the Act, which was on 28 September 2004. Policies in plans adopted or approved at that date are due to expire on 27 September 2007 unless the Secretary of State extends them beyond that date.
We have received a direction from the Secretary of State to this effect, listing those UDP policies which are to be saved. Those policies not listed in the direction will expire on 27 September 2007.
For the avoidance of doubt, from 28 September 2007 onwards the statutory development plan for Rotherham will consist of the Regional Spatial Strategy (as at present) and only those UDP policies listed in the direction and their corresponding allocations on the UDP Proposals Map.

Please note that the policies and allocations of the UDP should be read in conjunction with the saved policies direction above.
Rotherham's Unitary Development Plan (UDP) was formally adopted in June 1999. The plan is a statutory requirement that guides development throughout the borough covering such issues as land use, transport links, conservation and the protection of the environment.
The policies, proposals map and land allocations of the UDP can be viewed on the Planning Portal here:
