Our main role is to prepare the  Local Development Framework (or LDF for short) which will eventually replace the existing  Unitary Development Plan. The LDF will provide a long-term development strategy for Rotherham, setting out policies and proposals for new housing, shopping and employment, and how you travel around and about the Borough. The LDF is the main document to help the Council decide on planning applications. The LDF also looks to promote Rotherham's continued economic regeneration while still protecting and enhancing the environment.

We have produced a short information film on the planning system. The film outlines how we guide development in the borough, what the LDF will cover and how it links to the  Community Strategy.
