If you are considering having your ears pierced our advice is to....

    • Visit the premises prior to having the piercing
    • Check that the premises are registered with the Council
    • Look for the registration certificate
    • Check that the premises are clean and well maintained
    • Check that the jewellery is sterilised and is sealed
    • Ensure you receive written information about aftercare and that you follow the guidance

    Registration

Under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 anyone carrying out ear piercing, acupuncture, tattooing, or electrolysis within the Borough must be registered with the local authority. The premises where these activities take place must also be registered.

The aim of registration is to prevent infection of the person whose skin is pierced and to promote hygienic premises and practices.
