Registration Of Cooling Towers And Evaporative Condensers

All premises situated in Rotherham containing cooling towers and/or evaporative condensers must notify the local authority.

This is done by informing the Food, Health and Safety section, under the Notification of Cooling and Evaporative Condensers Regulations 1992. Notification is free.

These systems use water to cool hot air, usually falling within a tower and are normally associated with an industrial process or air conditioning system. If not properly maintained droplets of water from such systems can be the source of Legionella. This is a pneumonia-like infection which can be dangerous. Those most at risk are men over 50 years of age who smoke.
