Introduction
The Council's Emergency and Safety Team has been recognised for their excellent practice by the Department for Communities and Local Government’s Beacon Scheme. The Beacon Award recognised that emergency planning is regarded as a key service at the Council and that we take our responsibility of safeguarding local residents, business and commerce, services and buildings extremely seriously.
Rotherham’s strengths include:
- Commitment and support from Elected Member and Senior Officers
- Development of innovative approaches in respect of Emergency Planning, for example the in car Emergency Plan CD, specialised for every role in the authority.
- Extensive consultation with community groups, including Parish Councils and the BME community has ensured that we can provide all sectors of the community with emergency response that will meet all their needs.
- Business continuity management and promotion
- Excellent partnership working and networks established
- Psycho-social support for communities in crisis

Events
The Emergency Planning Beacons will be working closely together throughout the year to deliver learning and improvement events; these will enable organisations to engage with the Emergency Planning Beacons through many different mediums for example conferences, interactive workshops and mentoring.
