What is Beacon Status?
The Beacon Scheme, run by the Department of Communities and Local Government, recognises good practice across several themes. It is part of the government's programme to help local authorities improve services for local people. The aim is to recognise best-performing councils and to help spread good practice. Beacon Councils are helping raise standards of public services across the country.
Beacon Council Status for Fostering Business Growth
Giving the best service we can, to our people and our business community - that's the goal of all of us in Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.
By working in partnership with others in constantly seeking improvement to the public and business sectors, everyone in the borough benefits.
The UK Government recognised our success in winning inward investment and supporting existing businesses by presenting us with its prestigious Beacon Council Award for Fostering Business Growth, 2002-2003 - one of only five in that category nationwide.
So - how can our Beacon status help others?
Throughout 2002-3, the Rotherham Beacon dissemination team are hosting various events to share good practice, several successful sessions have already taken place.
