Introduction
Rotherham's innovative approach to the borough's changing business needs has been nationally recognised with the Council being awarded beacon status for "supporting new businesses". The Department of Communities and Local Government, which awards the Beacons praised Rotherham for its vision, innovation and excellent service. John Prescott said that "the awarding of Beacon Status to Rotherham demonstrates its particular achievements"
Rotherham's achievements include the development of:
Moorgate Crofts and other business centres dedicated to new start up companies
Excellent business support services, including Jobmatch and HR Support
Business Incubation including "pre-start pods" with focused support from Rotherham Council business advisors
Enterprise culture through Rotherham Youth Enterprise and Investors in Education.
The results of this extremely dedicated approach speak for themselves. Survivability rates currently stand at 97% after 12 months and to date 500 new businesses and 2000 new jobs have been created.
