Our Achievements

Review of achievements in last year's plan

The review is based on the targets in the Human Resources Service Plan 2006-2007 and supporting theme plans. The following represent key achievements in 2006/7:

Management development

  • Supported a team in the national Local Government Challenge
  • Launched the new Management Development Programme in partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University & Park Lane College

Employee involvement

  • Ran three "Reach-In" employee surveys and (fourth) Exchange branded employee opinion survey
  • Ran employee suggestion scheme, receiving 424 suggestions (compared to 200 suggestions over four years of previous scheme)
  • Supported representative worker groups, including International Women’s Day and a BME event in December

Pay

  • Implemented first phase of job evaluation outcomes for 5,000 ‘manual’ grades and ‘APT&C’ to Scale 3
  • Equal pay - following extensive negotiations with Trade Union representatives, Rotherham was the first authority in Yorkshire & Humberside to reach a formal collective agreement effective from 1 April 2006 to respond to the legal challenge of equal pay

Workforce planning – including learning

  • Audited workforce plans and panels, reported to the Council's Corporate Management Team (CMT) and produced revised guidance and data to support the service planning round for 2007
  • Reviewed and updated Human Resources policies to ensure they are current
  • Delivered Personal Development Review training, including soft skills (122 participants)
  • Delivered recruitment & selection training, including advanced and refresher training (345 participants)
  • Delivered the new programme of IT training (364 participants)
  • Delivered e-learning packages to support HR processes (sickness, disciplinary)
  • Developed and launched E-induction programme in partnership with Derby University
  • Launched ‘Directions’ learning & development intranet site
  • Participated in four schools careers fairs & five other schools/enterprise events
  • Led the Investors in Education project to include production of the U-explore video/DVD, placement of young apprentices and an apprenticeship scheme
  • First placement began in Environment & Development Services (EDS) in October
  • Supported Equip trainees
  • Provided improved workforce data to support workforce planning and people management

Health and wellbeing - including sickness

 

  • Developed a new Dignity at Work policy
  • Continued to improve sickness absence reporting and activity
  • Led a sub-regional capacity building project for musculo-skeletal intervention, awarding the contract to ‘Rehab-Works’ to begin in April 07
  • Publicised smoking cessation initiatives/support and available advice
