Culture and Leisure Services

Culture & Leisure Services has five units responsible for leisure facilities, parks and open spaces, libraries, archives, museums and gallery, historic buildings, arts development service, sports development, performance venues and the strategic overview of the Council's developments in these areas.

Leisure and Green Spaces

• Management and development of Leisure and Green Spaces ensuring high quality service standards and continuous improvement.
• Strategic planning, development and management of Rotherham’s green spaces, including urban and country parks, play areas, allotments, public open spaces, countryside sites and local nature reserves.
• Operational management of the Council’s urban green spaces and countryside sites, including the development of the urban park ranger service, site facility improvements and events programmes.
• The development of sport and physical activity opportunities.
• Management of sports and leisure facilities.

Project Development Unit

• Cultural Strategy, Cultural Consortium, Space for Sport and Arts in Primary Schools, Research Library, specifically designated projects and feasibility studies, business development, strategic service and business planning development, and external funding co-ordination.
• The research and collation of information, preparing reports and option studies for designated projects within Culture & Leisure Services. To act as project manager or project champion for designated projects.
• Leading the development of the sport and leisure facilities regeneration programme through a public private partnership programme.
• Developing, implementing and monitoring a performance management system across Culture and Leisure Services.

Libraries, Museums and Arts

• The development of arts and cultural activity across the borough.
• Clifton Park Museum, the York and Lancaster Regimental Museum, Rotherham Art Gallery, Keppel’s Column, Rockingham Pottery Kiln, Masbrough Chapel, other designated heritage sites.
• Archives and Local Studies Service and Records Management Centre.
• Corporate records management service, including electronic records management.
• Civic Theatre and Arts Centre, other venues and spaces.
• Library and Information Service.
• Mobile, Central, Community and Health Care Libraries.
• Services to Children, Social Inclusion, Stock, Reader Development and e’Library Services.

Commercial and Promotional Services

• Customer service, sales and marketing, promotions, festivals, special events and activities and co-ordination of fees and charges.
• The planning and development of marketing activities including media relations, publications, advertising and sales promotions across Culture & Leisure Services.
• Customer Services across Culture & Leisure Services.
• Festivals and events such as Rotherham Show, Christmas Carnival, etc. Provision of advice to community groups, organisations, Parish Councils with regard to organisation of events. Booking of urban parks for galas and fairs.
