Welcome to our Gender Equality Scheme page A new Gender Equality Duty [GED] came into force on 6 April 2007. This requires public authorities like the Council to promote equality between women and men and to eliminate unlawful sex discrimination and harassment. The duty covers all functions of the Council and means we have to develop policies, design services and have employment practices in place which consider the different needs of women and men. RMBC’s gender equality vision is:“We will, in our employment practices, service delivery and partnerships, identify and respond to all forms of gender stereotyping, discrimination, sexism and transphobia.”
Gender Equality Scheme We are also required under the duty to produce and publish a Gender Equality Scheme with a three-year action plan. The aim of the scheme is to demonstrate how we intend to meet our general duty to promote gender equality. A large part of our work to promote equality for women will be delivered through Rotherham Women's Strategy which complements and links closely with our Gender Equality Scheme.
We want to make sure that people in Rotherham from all sections of the community have the opportunity to comment on our scheme. Please e-mail your comments to us at equality@rotherham.gov.uk
