Important events and celebrations this month include:
9 Shavuot
Shavuot is also known as the festival or feast of 'Weeks' and marks the time that the Jewish people received the Torah (five books of Moses) on Mount Sinai. Synagogues are decorated with flowers and plants on this joyous occasion.
9 - 15 Carers’ Week
30,000 people in Rotherham provide unpaid care to others because of long term disability, ill health and problems related to old age. The theme of Carers’ Week this year will be on health and wellbeing.
15 Father’s Day
A commemoration and celebration of Dad. It is a day to honour not only your father, but all men that have acted as a father figure in your life.
16 Martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev

16 Refugee Week

21 Summer Solstice
This date has had spiritual significance for thousands of years. In England thousands of Pagans and non-Pagans go to places of ancient religious sites such as Stonehenge and Avebury to see the sun rising on the first morning of summer. Many more Pagans hold small ceremonies in open spaces, everywhere from gardens to woodlands.
21 International Humanist Day
This day is celebrated by some humanists as a way of informing people about the positive aspects of humanism as a philosophical life stance. Other humanists may choose not to celebrate any one particular day whilst others celebrate Human Rights Day in December.
